Taking the Threat of COVID-19 Seriously

In case you are interested, I am scheduled to appear on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News at 8:00pm EST. I welcome your thoughts if you happen to be watching the show.

Tucker has taken the threat of coronavirus seriously since the early days, which is important. We all need to recognize the potential danger of this outbreak and the weight it will place on our healthcare systems. A few weeks ago, I wrote a piece in the Los Angeles Times about all the ways in which our hospitals are unprepared. I also shared steps we can take to ready ourselves for a rapid increase in cases.

I highlight that article now because I think it is a reminder that there are concrete steps we can take that can help us control the spread of the disease while we wait for a more permanent solution. As I mentioned to reporters from Newsweek and the Daily Beast over the past week, in a best case scenario a treatment could be just months away.

We owe it to ourselves and our fellow citizens to be diligent with our own personal efforts to distance ourselves from each other to mitigate the spread of the disease, to push our government leaders to make testing more widely available and to prepare our hospitals for the surge of new cases, and to rally support behind the researchers and scientists who are working towards a medical solution.
